Mike & Katie's Tour de France - Days 13, 14 & 15 (8/20/22 - 8/22/22)

Bon jour Mike and Katie's Tour de France continued this weekend in Arles, in the southern region of Provence.

On Saturday Katie went shopping at Arles Saturday market and we spent plenty of time relaxing at the pool. Our hotel is in a restored 17th century farmhouse 10 minutes south of town. It's isolated, quiet, relaxing and beautiful! Saturday also saw a local mechanic visit us to repair the front left tire of the car which happened to find a wayward screw somewhere along our journey.

Sunday we hopped in the car and drove to the Pont Du Gard Roman Aquaduct constructed between 0-100 AD. Afterwards it was off to the medieval hilltop town and fortress of Les Baux! Beautiful views from there.

Today (Monday) we drove into Arles and did a self guided city tour (thanks Rick Steves!). We saw many Van Gogh "easels" around town at the places where he painted many of his masterpieces during his short stay in Arles (1888-1889). We also visited an ancient Roman amphitheatre where gladiators used to battle (today used for bull fights) and also the Roman theater which was used for plays and performances. We lunched at Cafe Van Gogh...see the pictures!

Tomorrow we are off to Nice for our final five days in France. Until then, au revoir!!
